Thank you for your informative observations on SligoToday.ie - some of which are already in preparation. Perhaps we can meet up to discuss same.
I've been using it as a test bed for network services for a new Community Radio station in Ireland that will start broadcasting in the next few months and I wanted a platform that I coul experiment with from both a client and server perspective.

From what I remember, It's pretty straight forward. Zimbra's IM service is disabled by default, (if you activated it in the Admin website, you'll need to disable it). You can either run Openfire on a seperate server or, as I did, use Zimbra's own MySQL server to hold openfire's data and it'll still happily authenticate against Zimbra's own LDAP server.

Have fun.

wondering about 'With some more jiggery pokery, I was also able to add Openfire to the mix and replace Zimbra’s own IM service.'
I've been thinking about this for years - any pointers ? I dont need anything specific - but did you just disable the zimbra im service and then install openfire on the same box - of have you managed to get the im client to look external to the zimbra server ?

thanks,
